Description

Description

Maca is a super food that is found in the Andes of Peru. It has been a popular food for the natives for centuries and is considered a part of the Andean diet. The maca which is scientifically known as Lepidium meyenii is popular with the natives due to its nutritional benefits. It is a root vegetable as well as a medicinal herb. The maca or maca-maca as the natives call it is a unique kind of plant since its properties have different effects on both women and men. After harvesting it is dried and grounded to make the famous maca powder. The maca can also be available in other forms such as capsules and liquid extract.

Maca is a plant that grows in central Peru in the high plateaus of the Andes mountains at altitudes of 11,000 feet (3500 m) and above. This makes it the highest growing food crop in the world. The Maca plant grows in rocky soils inhospitable to most other vegetation.  And it thrives in extreme climactic conditions such as freezing cold, intense sunlight and strong winds.

Maca is a nutritional powerhouse that is dense in amino acids, vitamins and minerals.
